Second Annual Progress Meeting on Reclamation Climate and Hydrology Research

January 29-30, 2014
Bureau of Reclamation, Denver, CO
More than 100 in-person and remote participants attended a workshop hosted by Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) focused on collaborative CCAWWG projects addressing climate impacts on hydrology and water resources.  Day one focused on impacts from short-term climate variability – from floods to droughts.  Day two focused on long-term impacts under climate change.  The purpose of the workshop was to facilitate information exchange about this collaborative research addressing climate change and variability impacts, flood hydrology, snow observations, and hydrologic prediction.
Background:
  • CCAWWG user needs for improved science and tools on addressing long-term climate change impacts in water resources planning and on addressing hydroclimate variability in short-term water management
  • Reclamation Science and Technology Program’s Knowledge Stream quarterly, October 2013 issue focused on climate change and variability research, available at:  http://www.usbr.gov/research/docs/ks-2014-01.pdf.
Project presentations were provided by research leads from several collaborating institutions, including:

  • Colorado State University
  • National Center for Atmospheric Research)
  • NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory
  • National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration - Earth Systems Research Laboratory
  • Reclamation Pacific Northwest Region, Policy, Technical Service Center, and Upper Colorado Region
  • USDA Agricultural Research Service
  • University of Colorado Cooperative Institute for Research in the Environmental Sciences
Support for these projects is being provided by Reclamation (Research and Development, Dam Safety, various Regions), NASA, NCAR , NOAA, and USACE Institute for Water Resources.

Workshop participants represented 22 federal, state, and local organizations (listed below).  For further information, please contact R.
